Built in 1877 as the Pelham Institute a social venue that was used for recreation and accommodation for the local working class residents of the district. The institute closed in 1959 after slum clearances to the west reduced the population with the building used as a warehouse and from the 1970s to 1994 as a base for Mid Sussex Judo Club. The building was then purchased by a housing association who converted it into flats and renamed it. Warwick Mount is the high rise block behind.
