The ridge has frequent clumps of the Nationally Scarce Shrubby Sea-blite (Suaeda vera) growing along it. The ridge provides sheltered conditions which has allowed saltmarsh to develop behind it. This location forms part of the extensive Blackwater Estuary SSSI. https://designatedsites.naturalengland.org.uk/SiteDetail.aspx?SiteCode=s1004426
