The sun is low in the sky on the evening of a bright September day. The Turf Tavern is to the left, the former Elite Cinema buildings on the right. When I was young the shop on the left with the appliqué Tudor beams was Tom Sanderson’s Tripe shop, with a large red neon sign at first-floor level. Next to it is Cappucci’s café (as it was in the olden days, too).
