The BMW MINI plant started life in the 1950s as a car body pressing plant called somewhat prosaically Pressed Steel. It supplied body panels to BMC (Austin, Morris and MG) then became part of British Leyland before ending up as MG Rover. This group was bought by BMW in 1994 before they threw in the towel and sold it for pennies in 2000. BMW however retained the MINI, which they build in Cowley, and this plant, which now supplies the body panels for it.
