Driving up the road after dark, I came across this covey of about 20 Red-legged Partridges roosting in the roadway. They seemed to be totally unconcerned by the headlights, and I was able to get out of the car and get quite close to them before they all took off and I was able to drive on up the road. A friend reckoned that he had seen about 70 of them, besides numerous Pheasant chicks. Both species are introduced. The Red-legged Partridge is displacing the native Grey Partridge in some areas.
