This sixteenth century, timber-framed, cottage with its catslide roof http://thesaurus.english-heritage.org.uk/thesaurus_term.asp?thes_no=546&term_no=137523 is typical of houses of the period and, it has been suggested, might be the sole remaining bay of a significantly larger house. Fortunately, subsequent owners neglected to keep up with the fads and fashions in architecture and did not face the exterior with brick. The building is now owned by the National Trust and is available as a holiday cottage http://www.nationaltrustcottages.co.uk/nt.asp?p=80&c=126. The Steyning Museum was once housed here but has moved to a purpose-built building 100m down Church Street.
