Ancient gravestones have been set in a row here. To the far left a bale tomb can just be seen. Bale tombs are common in Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds. They are so-called because the rounded top resembles a bale of wool. The Norman church was demolished in 1784 and the present church built on the site. The Georgian church was designed by William Marshall. Further re-building in 1875-90 was by architect, Sir Thomas Jackson.
