Grane Mill - steam engine and governor

This Scheduled Ancient Monument is now home to several small steam engines that have been acquired from off-site. On the left is an inverted vertical twin cylinder engine that was acquired from Ellesmere Port Boat Museum and probably operated a crane. On the right is a Lumb governor that was used on a Wood Bros tandem compound at Bathampton near Bath. It was then at Wendron Forge/Poldark Mine before passing to King Edward School of Mines. It was brought to Grane for preservation. The governor is now at Ellenroad Engine House Museum and is nicely restored alongside a horizontal single cylinder engine from Potclays in Stoke-on-Trent. The governor is turned by the engine for demonstration but does not actually govern it.
