Back in the 1970’s a decision was made to abolish the statute mile https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mile and introduce kilometres on road signs. I don’t know what happened in GB but some signs appeared in NI (apparently, from memory, where the existing ones were due for replacement). The idea was handbagged and scrapped after the 1979 general election. The few which showed kms were patched in miles. This one is on the Donaghadee Road, Millisle. The only other one that I can remember was at the bottom of the Dublin hill, Newry.
