The son of Robert Jack of Kilkenny https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilkenny and Annie née Humphries, Robert Ernest Jack was educated at Queen’s College, Cork https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_College_Cork and Christ Church, Oxford https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christ_Church,_Oxford He entered the Indian Civil Service https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Civil_Service_(British_India) in 1902 and served as Assistant Magistrate, Collector, Magistrate, and District Sessions Judge before his appointment to the High Court of Calcutta https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calcutta_High_Court in 1928: for more about puisne judges see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puisne_judge He was awarded the Coronation Medal in 1937 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_George_VI_Coronation_Medal and 1953 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Elizabeth_II_Coronation_Medal He married Bertha Innerarity in 1912.
