This distinctive and spacious Victorian corner shop in Eastgate was built of yellow brick and blue slate by John Branston in 1860, soon becoming the town’s biggest retail outlet, and when the business was sold to George Bett in 1913 he turned it into Bourne’s first department store. The premises have had several tenants since he retired in 1946 including the Kinnsway furniture store seen here but in 2008 the building was converted into a private house.
