Priorities

4 Dec 2020

Anti Social Behaviour (ASB)
This was discussed in the quarterly priority setting meeting in December and it was agreed this would remain a priority. Whilst a lot of work has been done, more is still needed around nuisance driving on Martins Way, Gunnelswood Road, Wedgewood Way, Wisden Road, Grace Way, Scarborough Avenue, Sish Lane, Canterbury Way and Clovelly Way. This now includes vehicle nuisance in the Old Town High Street area, in particular evenings and weekends.

Response (17 Oct 2022)

We have been carrying out regular speed enforcement patrols in the area and numerous traffic offence reports have been issued and drivers reported for speeding. This activity is ongoing.

31 Mar 2023

Crime
It was agreed at the priority setting forum in December to tackle begging and associated ASB, street drinking, drug dealing and substance misuse in the Durham Road, York Road, Ripon Road and surrounding streets of St Nicholas.
We have received an increase in reports of substance misuse and drug dealing. We are working to tackle this issue by identifying individuals involved, making arrests and using powers under the Misuse of Drugs Act, public order, crime and policing acts.
Work continues with partner agencies under Operation Urban to identify those who are vulnerable or genuinely homeless and offer support to them and protect them from drug dealers who may be targeting them.
