The Class 503 was the Wirral Line's resident class of EMUs from 1937 until 1985. The class worked the railway from Liverpool to New Brighton, West Kirby and Rock Ferry and were exceptionally modern when they were introduced. The farewell tour was on 13 April 1985, and this board was fastened to the front of either unit 28690 or 28394. The six 1956 BR manufacturer's plates remain, however, the six 1937 LMS manufacturer's plates have since been removed from this board. One unit of the class has been preserved, and is kept at the Electric Railway Museum near Coventry. See: Image for a Class 503 in general service.
