The statue of King Robert the Bruce (to the right of the circular wall which surrounds a flagpole) was erected in 1963 to commemorate the 650th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn which King Robert the Bruce won in 1314. http://sinclair.quarterman.org/history/med/battleofbannockburn.html
