An impressive statue erected by the Douglas family to commemorate their ancestor on the bicentenary of his raising of the Cameronian regiment (26th Foot) for service under William of Orange. He points to the surrounding hills of Douglasdale where the recruits were found who mustered for the first time near this spot on 14 May 1689. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Douglas,_Earl_of_Angus
