I have been hunting these, which are on the main from Withens Clough Reservoir, Mytholmroyd, to Morley. To find one here was a great surprise, as it almost certainly crosses the river next to Brighouse Bridge and there is another plate near the eastern end of Jay House Lane. The obvious route between them would seem to be alongside the mineral tramway to the west of Clifton Common. However the tramway was still in use in 1893, when the main was laid, so perhaps that route was not possible. The plate is facing a railway embankment, which existed when the main was laid. Presumably the main comes along Wakefield Road from the town centre, and leaves the road here for some reason.
