There are different etymologies available for the name Llechryd, one being 'slate ford' - and indeed the original settlement was clustered around the river. However there was also dispersed settlement along the road leading towards Cardigan, and a good deal of C20 infill. This is one such small housing estate, going by the name of Waungiach - Snipe Meadow.
