Hergest Mill - bedstones, mainshaft and crown wheel

This is one of the two sets of bedstones. The X shaped mainshaft carries the crown wheel that originally drove three pinions to drive auxiliary machinery. The loudspeaker in the background is set in a unique concrete tapered tube to boost the really low frequencies and produce a 'visceral' sound that is felt rather than heard. This was a prototype produced by the mill's owner but never made it into production.
