The Marlow shuttle

Introduction

The photograph on this page of The Marlow shuttle by David Purchase as part of the Geograph project.

The Geograph project started in 2005 with the aim of publishing, organising and preserving representative images for every square kilometre of Great Britain, Ireland and the Isle of Man.

There are currently over 7.5m images from over 14,400 individuals and you can help contribute to the project by visiting https://www.geograph.org.uk

In this photo the shuttle between Maidenhead and Marlow is heading for Bourne End, travelling from left to right. The service is operated by First Great Western. In the days of steam, the service was known as The Marlow Donkey (I have also heard it as The Marlow Donk), though the origin of the term is unclear. I do not know whether this nickname is still used for the more prosaic (but also much more practical) DMUs now used.
