This U-shaped block of cottages and houses was built in various stages between 1796 and the mid-19th century and is an attractive, formerly isolated cluster of stone buildings with slate roofs. Numbers 5, 6 and 7 are the oldest cottages and are Grade II Listed (English Heritage Building ID: 337492 http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-337492-5-6-and-7-jane-hills- British Listed Buildings). These 3 properties were originally built as a large 2-celled house and a textile workshop with a separate entrance. Wool would have been loaded into the building via the blocked taking-in door on the gable abutting the canal.
