The inscription on the building at 158 Rodbourne Road is G.W.R MECHANICS' INSTITUTION BRANCH READING ROOMS. The year 1904 is at the top of the building. The GWR (Great Western Railway) Mechanics' Institution was formed in 1844, located inside the GWR railway works nearby. In March 2015, a Premises for Sale (potential for residential conversion) board is on the wall.
