This house in Wimborne is associated with the area's most notorious smuggler Isaac Gulliver (1745 - 1822). He became a very wealthy man through the smuggling trade that he operated along the Dorset coast, claiming in mitigation that no person had ever lost their life due to his activities. Taking advantage of a king's pardon, he retired to Wimborne in 1817, where he became respectable, even becoming a churchwarden of the Minster. When he died, he was buried in the Minster where his tomb bearing his name can be seen. http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/Details/Default.aspx?id=107173&mode=adv Image
