Wimborne - the first Wesleyan Methodist Church

The brick building in the centre next to the White Hart pub was the first purpose-built Methodist church in Wimborne. It was erected in 1820 after the Methodists had outgrown their former place of worship, a hired house in West Borough. It was remodelled in 1846, and after a new church was built in King Street in 1868, it was discontinued as a Methodist chapel to eventually become a Masonic Hall. Since then it has also served the town as a cinema (possibly the first), and also as a Salvation Army citadel. Image
