Opened as "Pontypool Road" in 1909 by the Great Western Railway on what is today the line from Hereford to Newport, this station replaced an earlier one some 300m further south - see Image In 1972 the station name was changed to "Pontypool", then to "Pontypool & New Inn" in 1994. View south west towards Panteg and Newport. Previously there had been a bay platform here, as well as one at the south end, but these have been long-since filled in.
