As built, this was a major junction station with one of the longest platforms in the country. It had bay platforms at both ends, but these have been long-since filled in. There are no longer connecting trains here as the diverging lines were closed in the 1960s. The extensive platform canopies were also removed and in 1994 the station entrance was also demolished, leaving this rather bleak view. Opened as "Pontypool Road" in 1909 by the Great Western Railway on what is today the line from Hereford to Newport, this station replaced an earlier one some 300m further south - see Image In 1972 the station name was changed to "Pontypool", then to "Pontypool & New Inn" in 1994. View south west towards Panteg and Newport. As built, this was a major junction station with one of the longest platforms in the country.
