Makeshift scarecrows are a rare sight in the countryside today such as this one we discovered in a field of forage rape alongside the B1176 near Little Bytham, all hastily put together from lengths of wood, old overalls and a white plastic chemical container for the head with coloured streamers attached to the arms fluttering wildly in the breeze to give added movement in an attempt to keep the birds at bay.
