Wind bore

Not a derogatory term but the old fashioned term for the bottom part of a pump that contains a strainer element. Also called a 'snore' because of the noise it makes if the water drops low enough to allow it to draw air. This is alongside the 1795 Newcomen atmospheric engine at Elsecar.
