A terrace of eight miners' houses photographed from Hemingfield Colliery. The Colliery was latterly used as a pumping pit and was then abandoned. It was acquired from British Coal by an enthusiast and is now being preserved as an intended heritage centre. Work is in progress on clearing the undergrowth and once again opening up views of a most interesting site. The site includes a roofless electrical substation, two concrete head gears and an 1840s beam winding engine house with a 1930 brick extension to cover the electrified winder for the winding pit and the winch for the pumping pit. The pumping engine house adjoins the pumping pit and its head gear and has been converted to a home.
