Access to the rear of the former Castle Brewery site is via a service road that serves an Iceland supermarket off London Road (the B6326). Despite the fact that records show these Grade II-listed premises were constructed to a design by William Bradford, for the brewers Caparn & Hankey, 1885-90, a painted sign on the door-jamb of the front entrance to the former administrative building in Albert Street reads: “James Hole & Co. Ltd, Registered Office”. Several local people that I asked referred to it as “Hole’s Brewery”. The former Italianate style 'main office' building and brewery buildings are now up-market apartments.
