Shillaker Court at Bourne, Lincolnshire

The imposing block of six council flats in the Austerby was built in 1954 on the site of Shillaker House, home of retired farmer Harry Shillaker (1865-1924) and his wife Annie (1862-1937), a talented artist, who worked from a studio which her husband built in the grounds. Mrs Shillaker painted in both oils and watercolours but also achieved a reputation for her miniature portraiture and her work was exhibited at the Royal Academy and by the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours.
