A check on the stability of tombstones in the town cemetery at Bourne began in 2004 after concerns were raised by the Health and Safety Executive that some might be unsafe and likely to fall on unsuspecting visitors. Over 10,000 people are buried there and around 70% have a stone memorial but the topple test was never completed and those that were laid flat have since been reinstated.
