Most road signs in Britain were changed to the style we are familiar with today after a Government committee looked into improving them in 1963. The chairman of that committee was Sir Walter Worboys (then a director of ICI). Therefore any old signs that have survived from before this committee are known as "pre-Worboys" and pictured here is a good example from the junction at the centre of the village of Bradford on Tone in Somerset. By way of contrast, the postbox is of a very modern design.
