View eastward, towards Newtown, Welshpool, Shrewsbury, Oswestry and Whitchurch on the ex-Cambrian main line from Aberystwyth and the Welsh Coast. The train has come from Brecon by the ex-GWR Mid-Wales line via Builth, Rhayader and Llanidloes. This closed from 31/12/62 together with this station, although goods trains continued as far as Llanidloes until 1967. The locomotive is No. 46503 (built 11/52, withdrawn 5/67), one of the many LMS-type Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0s that in its last decade worked almost all services on the Mid-Wales line. The River Severn is off to the left and the hills on the right are the Cefn Nith, rising to 1,040 feet. (See alsoImage).
