This is on the end wall of the first cottage in the central row of three (40 cottages in all). The plaque has been erected by Maldon District Council and Maldon District Heritage Forum. It reads: "WOODFIELD COTTAGES These 40 cottages were erected in 1873 by E.H.Bentall, agricultural implement manufacturer, for his workforce. Their construction involved pioneering use of in-situ concrete." See Image for a view of the central row of cottages.
