This building, currently known as Ash House and originally part of the former Ransom Sanatorium (later Ransom Hospital), sits at the northern end of the long main drive that connects this part of the site with the entrance/exit on Southwell Road West (the A6191). It is now used as office units for various business enterprises but was formerly the Sisters' Home. Two circular plaques on the front elevation bearing representations of the double serpent entwined with surmounting wings and the staff of Hermes give a clue that the building was part of the original Ransom Hospital. The site, functioned as a TB hospital and later as a mental handicap unit between 1902-1976, although this building was constructed in the late 1930s/early 1940s. More recently, i.e. from 2000 onwards part of the site was used by NHS staff. (The double serpent and its association with Hermes, seems strange since Hermes was a messenger of the gods who had the responsibility of carrying souls into the underworld!)
