The Mount Hotel had been gutted by fire in July 2008, caused by a faulty dryer. Insurers Aviva refused to pay out on the £500,000 insurance claim due to an undeclared County Court Judgment. The building remained empty for several years before being sold to a property developer who had received permission to convert the hotel into apartments and erect three detached houses.
