The bridge at Newent station took the Gloucester - Ledbury branch line over the road to Dymock and beyond. The line closed to passengers in 1959, having been built on the alignment of the Hereford - Gloucester canal. The canal will rise again and will pass over the road at this point. The small lean-to hut with the broken door dates back to GWR days and still bears GWR Stone No1 and Stone No2 paint, applied almost 70 years ago.
