Topping up a midden at Manorley. Straw is reunited with the fields whence it came. Manure, a rotted mixture of animal waste and straw, releases nutrients slowly into the soil and is still used widely as fertilizer. Modern machinery has done away with one of my "favourite" jobs of past years, digging out a byre with a fork. It's not that dirty, but plain backbreaking. Southward view to the Forth.
