The trees in the background are on the very edge of the Crown lands of the New Forest, to the north of Longdown Inclosure. In the foreground is a boggy area at the head of a stream that leads down through the inclosure to the Beaulieu River at Fulliford. The wet ground is crossed by a Forestry Commission-constructed causeway.
