54 Eastgate Street was originally the independently operated Plaza Super Cinema which opened in November 1935. In January 1956, it was taken over by Circuits Management Association, which soon became the Rank Organisation. The cinema was modernised and renamed Odeon in January 1957. The Odeon closed at the end of August 1975. It was converted to a Top Rank Bingo Club. In late November 2014 it is a Mecca Bingo Club.
