This bridge, over the A1000 Bessemer Road, is one of the few remains in Welwyn Garden City of the former Great Northern Railway's long dismantled branch line to Hertford. The branch predated the development of Welwyn Garden City by some considerable time to the extent that there was no station at the nearby junction with the main line to the north.
