Documentary evidence exists that shows there was a church on this site as early as 1080. This structure is mostly C14. John Wycliffe, translator of the Bible and "Morning star of the Reformation" was vicar here 1368-74. The derivation of the name "Ludgershall" is unclear. There is another Ludgershall in Wiltshire and the village was recorded as Litlegarsele in the Domesday Book.
