As the plaque over the door indicates, this was originally a Primitive Methodist Chapel, dated 1836. A full history of the building can be found on the excellent village website http://www.beckingham-northnotts.org.uk/recroom.html . This shows that the building has undergone various modifications over the years. It ceased to be used as a chapel between the two World Wars, and was purchased by the Parish Council in the late 1970s. It's function as a Recreation Room dates from 1983, providing a meeting facility additional to the main village hall.
