The East Coast Main Railway Line crosses Ermine Street at Highdike Cottages. This is part of the descent from Stoke Tunnel, where Mallard broke the speed record for Steam Locomotives in 1938 http://www.nrm.org.uk/PlanaVisit/Events/mallard75.aspx .
