Neuadd Willis was opened in 2006 incorporating the former British Hotel and a new built extension in the back. The hostel which is privately owned belongs to the Watkin Jones Group (an instantly recognisable name to anyone familiar with Geographs of Bangor-Caernarfon area) and Carlton North Wales. Watkin Jones is set to build a further private hostel across the road on the site of the now demolished Plaza Cinema. These developments have been controversial.
