This plaque commemorates the opening of St. James Gardens by Olive Lawson on the 17th August 1887. Previously it was a burial ground. Also on the plaque are the names of various officials of bodies connected with the conversion to a park. Unfortunately the top of the plaque is badly stained and discoloured and very difficult to read, and impossible in this photograph. The plaque can be found near the start of the entrance passageway to the park from Hampstead Road. See:- Image Image
