It is at around this point that one begins to suspect that this is some ancient route linking Pickering with Stape and points north as there is an obvious straight line of old tracks and paths heading north from Newbridge via Haugh Rigg and this track to the present road junction at the edge of the Tabular Hills at Rawcliffe.
