The modern houses on the left are in Canal Terrace. A century and more ago, Canal Terrace was a mixture of dwellings and retail premises, near the end of the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal. In 2014, the end of the canal, disused in the Newport area, is about 2km to the north, at Crindau Pill.
