A really nice evocative pub sign. As can be seen this used to be a Holts house. They are a long established family run business based in Manchester and still in business. However this pub is now run by Craddock's Brewery, based at the Duke William in Stourbridge. The horses on the sign are particularly appropriate as beer supplies are delivered here by dray horse. Many pubs were called the Plough or the Plough and Harrow and they remain common names today. In the days when few people could read or write, they would identify pubs by their signs. Image Image
