The building is near the crossroads of Gwendoline Street, Cross Street and Railway Terrace. Parc Calon Lân is a community park in a former mining area at the top of the Garw valley. Calon Lân is a Welsh hymn, the words of which were written by Daniel James (1848–1920), also known by his bardic name Gwyrosydd.
