I thought that this dome on the roof of Layton Library Image was some kind of chimney but I am informed by the library "This used to be a decorative dome, until it was subject to mindless vandalism (copper thieves) a few years ago, and it has never been replaced, which is a shame as it was very pretty. It was an original feature of the old library which was opened on the 2nd October 1937."
